Anniversary

Remember, years ago, the crocuses
had bloomed in January? It must be

a sort of parable, you said, and I
agreed, although of what I had no sense.

But, since that day, I’ve figured through it all;
those blossoms were a sign of faith despite

poor circumstance, such as a woman might
place in a man who has not proved himself

and has no prospect but the charity
of a single heart whose confidence is spring.
